Entries for the 2018 Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run half marathon are now open! 

The Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run is now established as the second biggest half marathon in the UK, as the city comes alive with thousands of runners pounding the streets as they tick off 13.1 miles, encouraged by on course bands, entertainment and cheering crowds.

It's the perfect opportunity to get the whole family involved in the city's biggest weekend of running with the Simplyhealth Junior and Mini Great Birmingham Run due to take place on Saturday 13 October at Alexander Stadium.

Need that little extra help with your training, or somewhere to continue your running experience? Join friendly runners and volunteers at our free, weekly 2k and 5k events and become part of a happier, healthier, growing community!

With your own personal Great Run Local wristband, you can track your progression through our unique mobile phone app, whilst meeting new people and interacting with others as you run! From children in pushchairs to our oldest runner at 88 years young, we encourage all abilities and ages to continue running with us all year round!

As the UK’s second biggest city, Birmingham has all the ingredients for a fantastic weekend. Take a trip to the Balti Triangle for a tasty curry, or check out the National Exhibition Centre for the latest line up of shows, which could include anything from Crufts to Beyonce!

If you're a keen shopper Birmingham is the place to be. With a selection of some of the UK’s best shops covering the city you won’t be short on choice.

Birmingham boasts a number of other iconic tourist hot spots, suitable for all the family, including Edgbaston Cricket Ground, the Bullring and the world-famous Cadbury World.

About Birmingham

Elite and Club Runners

Any athlete wishing to compete via an elite entry for the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run must meet one of the following criteria:

10 mile 51.00 63.00
Half M 69.00 83.00
Marathon 2.24.00 2.48.00

Qualifying times must be achieved after the 1st January 2016.

Other standards considered:

  • Top 20 placing at National Senior XC Championships
  • Any athletes (Junior/ U23 / Senior) that have represented Great Britain at XC/ road or track (at 1500 and above) over the last 3 years will also be offered free elite entry.

Both Elite fields are restricted to numbers so apply early to avoid disappointment. Email with details of qualifying performances, name, DOB and club.

The Elite Management reserve the right to refuse any entry whether an athlete meets criteria or not. This is a guide and does not guarantee elite entry into any Great Run Event. Elite entries for all events will close 2 weeks before the event date. No entries will be accepted after this date.
