Great South Run 5K

Entries are open for the Great South 5k on Saturday 22 October 2016, the perfect event to kick-off a packed weekend of sport on the South coast.

The 5k is popular for first-time runners looking to take their first steps to the longer distance, but also for people who may no longer feel that their legs will take ten miles of running at the Great South Run the next day.

An undoubted attraction of the Great South Run 5k is the fact that there is not a hill in sight as Southsea provides a virtually perfectly flat course with lovely views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.

Event location

With the perfect blend of historic and modern sights, there is something for everyone in Portsmouth and Southsea.

If you are looking for things to do in the popular waterfront city, why not take a trip up Spinnaker Tower? At 170 metres high you will experience beautiful views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, head for a walk around Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and marvel at HMS Victory and the Mary Rose Museum, which houses Henry VIII’s flagship that sank in 1545.

About Portsmouth

Tom Bosworth's Challenge

Rio Olympian Tom Bosworth, one of Britain’s greatest ever race walkers, is challenging participants of the Great South Run 5k to run the event quicker than he walks it.

Tom, who holds the national record for the 3k, 5k, 10k and 20k distances, will walk the route and will reward any speedy runner who beats his time with a free entry into next year’s Great South Run or Great South Run 5k!

Anyone who is successful in beating Tom's time will be contacted after the event.
