TV Star Ferne McCann was in Glasgow today ahead of the Great Scottish Swim on 27 August this year. Former TOWIE and I’m a Celeb… favourite Ferne, who is currently a presenter on This Morning, will be joining around 2400 other swimmers on the day.

Taking place in the picturesque surrounding of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, the event will welcome participants of all ages and abilities as they take on a range of distances; from the beginners half-mile, all the way up to the 10k ‘marathon’ swim.

As Great Swim ambassador, Ferne first took the plunge at the Great Manchester Swim last month, and she’s now raring to dive into the Loch and improve her time.

Ferne said, “I was really apprehensive about my first open water swimming event but I absolutely loved it! It’s an amazing experience; everyone should give it a go.

“The Great Swim events have a brilliant atmosphere and really are for everyone, no matter what your level of fitness.

“My first swim was down in Salford Quays, so this one will be quite different, I can’t wait to get up to Scotland and experience open water swimming against the incredible back drop of Loch Lomond.”

Mairi Bell, Head of Visitor Experience at Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park said “We’re delighted to be hosting the Great Scottish Swim again and can’t wait to welcome Ferne and all the open water swimmers to the National Park. Loch Lomond really does provide the perfect backdrop to take the plunge!”

The event, which will to be staged at the iconic venue for the third time, continues to grow in popularity, with swimmers looking for longer, more challenging events each year.  This year the event will include a SwimRun challenge on the Friday night, which will allow participants to take on a 5K run and an 800m swim together. The main event will also feature a gruelling 10k ‘marathon’ swim for the very first time.

Alex Jackson, Director of the Great Swim Series said; “ We’re excited Ferne will be joining us for the Great Scottish Swim.  We hope she will inspire people to follow her lead and give it a go.”

Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland’s Director of Events, said: “Loch Lomond has proven itself to be the perfect stage for open water swimming during previous editions of the Great Scottish Swim and I’m sure Ferne is going to enjoy every minute of it.
“We delighted to be supporting the event once again through EventScotland’s International Funding Programme and look forward to seeing almost 3,000 swimmers take to the water come August 27.”

Great Scottish Swim is the last of five Great Swim events held in lakes, lochs and urban docks around the UK.
