Jody Cass is celebrating her 40th birthday with a huge personal challenge as well as aiming to raise money for a cause close to her heart.

Jody has been married to Nathan for fifteen years, and following his diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis five years ago she is on a fundraising mission for the MS Trust who have helped and supported her family.

Jody is taking on four challenges - one for each decade – tackling the 2-mile challenge at the Great North Swim, the Simplyhealth Great North Run, an obstacle race and a triathlon this year.

Jody explained, “I've taken on the Great North Swim before but only a mile up to now, as I'm raising money this time I wanted to do something new and keep pushing myself.

“Although I enjoy swimming, I'm not a natural runner, so the half marathon is going to be a real test, its important to keep setting yourself goals to stay fit as you get older.

“I'm supporting the MS Trust as they have been a very helpful source of information, not just for me, but for our children, since my husband was diagnosed.

“They also support MS Nurses who offer lots of practical advice on medication and other ways of managing the condition. They are the main point of contact for a person with MS and can refer a patient on to a doctor, or a therapist.”

“Nathan is very supportive, but he does find it all a bit funny”

Jody's children, Megan, 12 and Oliver, 10 will be with her every step of the way and she's expecting to see them on the finish line as she completes each challenge.

“I want to show the kids that it's possible to achieve something if you set your mind to it. They'll all be there to support me, although they might wonder what's taking me so long!”
