Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run is Europe’s biggest 10k for a reason... 10 reasons to be exact!

1. It boasts one of the biggest and best start lines

The adrenaline rushes through your veins as you stand on the start line with thousands of people around you; a buzzing atmosphere, Manchester anthems blasting from the speakers along Portland street... you have to experience it to believe the hype.

2. The Boon Army stage

He says it's his favourite gig, and we say it's possibly our favourite part of the 10k course. DJ and Inspiral Carpets legend Clint Boon will once again host the Boon Army stage at the 5k point, banging out some Manchester classics. If you ever need a soundtrack to run to, Clint Boon is your man.

3. Share your run with the best of the best

We're not just talking about the Olympic and World champions leading the field, we're talking about the thousands of people running for causes close to their heart, raising millions for charities across the world. Once you cross the finish line take a trip to the charity village in Albert Square and meet some of them.

4. DJ Dingle

Jeff Hordley, Emmerdale's Cain Dingle, gave runners a half way boost at the very first Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run half marathon in 2017, pumping out the tunes outside Manchester City's Etihad Stadium.

5. You’ll pass some of the friendliest bands around

The course features entertainment from start to finish, with bands on the run playing everything from The Beatles to Rihanna. Be prepared for them to give you a shout-out as you run past, and they might even run alongside you, if they can keep up!

6. Technical tee

Cross the finish line and you'll be rewarded with a cheer, a technical t-shirt and a medal. Perfect to show off on Bank Holiday Monday and when you get back to work.

7. Pass the cobbles

Not only will you run alongside Coronation Street stars, but the 10k course also passes the famous cobbles of Coronation Street’s new set!

8. 15 years and counting...

It seems like only yesterday that the very first Great Manchester Run finished inside the G-Mex. Over 300,000 finishers later, and 2018 will be the 16th staging of the event!

9. It’s not just for adults

The Simplyhealth Junior & Mini Great Manchester Run will take place on the same day as the 10k and half marathon, so young runners and budding athletes can experience the same buzz as the adults, and even run part of the 10k course. Perfect training for the future!

And to those half marathon runners...

10. Experience Mancunian Way

Run part of your half marathon course along Mancunian Way. For one day only this infamous motorway will be gridlocked with runners instead of cars. Selfie time!
