A dad has embarked on a huge fundraising challenge for cancer awareness as he aims to take on a dozen running events in 2018.

Dan Noble, from Kingswood in Bristol, set himself a task of completing one organised race a month in order to fundraise for Macmillan Cancer Support.

He decided to take up the challenge to lose weight and support a worthy charity in the process.

Dan hopes that his fundraiser can transform him from a couch potato to losing four stone in total.

One of the events that he has signed up to is the Simplyhealth Great Bristol 10k on Sunday 13 May, which will be the fifth event that he has taken part in during his fundraiser.

Dan, a dad-of-one, says that he enjoys setting himself goals in January and hopes that any funds he raises goes into further cancer research.

He has struggled with motivation in the past while juggling a busy job at Bristol City Council and his three-year-old daughter Jasmine.

Dan, 36, said: "Every year I want to do something to support research into cancer and around January I decided to make it one of my goals to take on 12 events this year.

"I also really wanted to lose a bit of weight as life got in the way and thought this would be perfect for my motivation by doing something a little different.

"I chose Macmillan because I know they do such a good job in both our local community and across the UK in supporting those affected by cancer.

"My training has got off to a good start, I'm one event down and I've learned to do my running sessions before work having a three-year-old means I have been awake quite early.

"I have been making sure I get out running three or four times a week and I've really been enjoying the health benefits.

"I find that I have more energy now that I am training. Everyday tasks like housework get that little bit easier to carry out. Plus I have energy to be a better husband and father.

"One thing I have set myself is to use the stairs in work and not just get in the lift. It's a great feeling when you can surprise yourself.

"I never thought I would be able to run any sort of distance and I know it's a bit cliche but believe me, if I can do it then anyone can!"

Participants can be their greatest and conquer a 10k challenge at the Simplyhealth Great Bristol 10k this spring.

13,000 runners can start good and finish greater when they take on this picturesque course through the awe inspiring surroundings of Bristol city centre.

Dan hopes to raise over £250 towards Macmillan and is well on his way to completing his target. He added: "The fundraising element is progressing nicely.

"I have been sharing my fundraising page online with my friends and family who have been really supportive, as this is a big challenge for me.

"I have taken on the Simplyhealth Great Bristol 10k twice before and always enjoyed the atmosphere and being able to run through my hometown.

"It will be a special event for me and this year it will have a bigger meaning because I have received a lot of support from people who I know."
