Entries for the Simplyhealth Great North 10k Toddler Dash and Family Run have now closed.

The family events, which are staged on the same day as the Simplyhealth Great North 10k, have now reached capacity.

On Sunday 9 July, hundreds of young runners and families will cross the finish line inside Gateshead International Stadium, after thousands of adults complete the annual 10k.

The Simplyhealth Great North 10k Toddler Dash will see over 100 children up to the age of three completing 70 metres on the athletics track, and up to 400 people will take in a one mile route around the stadium in the Family Run.

Kerry Simpson, communications manager at the Great Run Company, said: “The Simplyhealth Great North 10k family events were introduced last year, and are already growing in popularity.

“After the huge success of the Simplyhealth Junior and Mini Great North Run in September, we're excited that we can offer more events for families and toddlers across the year, and can't wait to see everyone on the start line next week.”

Entries for the Simplyhealth Great North 10k are still open. The event, which is now in its ninth year, will pass iconic landmarks on the Quayside including Sage Gateshead, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.

South Shields FC will be honorary starters for the event, bringing with them the FA Vase, the first national trophy in their club's history, which they won last month.
