The Simplyhealth Great Bristol 10k is taking place on Sunday 13 May and every year, 13,000 people flock to the city centre to take on a challenge across a scenic and awe-inspiring course.

Here’s a quick run through of what to look out for on the 10k course if you’ve signed up to the challenge:

1) The Ship

As you head along the Harbour, you’ll be greeted with the extraordinary sight of the world’s first great ocean liner, Brunel’s SS Great Britain. The brainchild of the most famous honorary Bristolian, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, this iconic steamship is positioned before you reach your first kilometre.

Labelled as an innovation and once the world’s greatest creation, the story behind this historic piece of the city is sure to inspire you on your 10k.

2) The Bridge

The symbol of the city of Bristol, and as one of the 13,000 runners taking on the Simplyhealth Great Bristol 10k, you’ll pass under it twice. You’ll travel along the picturesque Avon Gorge at sea level, on an out-and-back section of the course where you’ll follow the River Avon up to Clifton before returning to the city centre.

3) The Feel-Good Factor

The Simplyhealth Great Bristol 10k course will provide plenty of atmosphere with bands on the run including jazz music from the Framton Footwarmers, Batala drumming and African Dambista.

There’ll also be a charity cheering point and a JD from Children’s Hospice South West. Also remember to look to the skies around the half way mark to spot the huge hot air balloon from the Teenage Cancer Trust!

4) The Finish Line

No matter how you run or how fast you go, you can’t beat that finish line feeling as you head back into Bristol city centre and turn left back onto Anchor Road to cross the line.

There’ll be thousands of spectators cheering your name, guaranteeing you a hero’s welcome.

5) The Celebration

After you’ve conquered your 10k challenge, make sure you head to Millennium Square where you’ll be greeted by the event’s partners and sponsors offering post-run recovery, fuelling stations and words of congratulations.

If you’ve ran for a good cause, there’ll also be some of our charity partners offering thanks to their runners.

Highlights include a Simplyhealth Action Zone offering activities and a Gif Booth, Nandos and Pure Gym.
