While all of our runners are awesome, our spectators help to make our events extra-special – and there was a staggering 1.5million of you lining the streets at our events in 2017. Thank you!
Our runners took on events ranging from the family-friendly mile distance, right up to a marathon, every single one of them with a reason for doing it. The most popular reasons for taking part were using the event as a motivation to get fit and healthy, for fun, for a challenge and to beat a previous time. You smashed it!
The most popular age range for runners was the 36-45 category, making up 32% of our total runners, followed by 26% from 25-35. 46-54-year-olds made up 23% of our 2017 finishers, with 10% from the 55+ category, and 9% under 25.
Simplyhealth Great Run Day saw 250,000 people get active, recording 190,000 runs on Strava, covering 1.5million miles – that’s three times to the moon and back!
There were 225 Duracell Bunny Pacers across the Great Run Series, helping our runners hit their goals in style.
A total of 1.4million Aqua Pura bottles were handed out to our runners across the UK and Ireland in 2017
A massive 27% of our runners took part to raise money for charity, with a fantastic £52.2 million raised in 2017 for good causes. A record 20,000 charity places were snapped up at this year’s Simplyhealth Great North Run.
We had 10,000 volunteers helping out at our events in 2017 – we couldn’t get by without your help, so thank you very much. And, if you’re interested in becoming a volunteer for Great Run, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
