The AJ Bell Great North Run is the world’s biggest and best half marathon, with 60,000 runners taking on the route from Newcastle to South Shields each year. It’s famous for its inclusive atmosphere, unbeatable on-route entertainment, and warm Geordie welcome, not to mention the millions raised each year for worthy causes. From the rush of the Red Arrows flying overhead to the oggy-oggy-oggy chants, Great North Run magic can be hard to understand – until you’ve experienced it for yourself.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re running to beat your personal best, to raise some cash for charity or simply for the pint at the end, you’re guaranteed a run like no other – and a finish line feeling you’ll never forget.
Please note: timetable is subject to change. Your wave, assembly and start time with be confirmed on your run number sent out before the event.

The AJ Bell Great North Run starts on the Central Motorway in Newcastle and finishes on The Leas in South Shields.
The start and assembly areas are located on the Central Motorway (See start map below). On the day, follow the signs to the assembly area which corresponds to the colour & letter on your run number. There will be a number of toilets at the start and finish to use on arrival and after your run. There will also be toilets on the course at each of the 6 drink stations along the route and 3 showers. Toilet facilities will be busy before and after the run, so allow plenty of time.
