Great North Run
2022 Event Guide
The Great North Run event guide has all of the information and useful details you need for the big day.
We highly recommend you take time to read through it to ensure you’re race ready.
Sea You Soon!
The countdown is now well and truly on! We can’t wait to see runners back on the iconic Great North Run, city to sea course, as we celebrate the return of our traditional finish line in South Shields. Whether you missed your free in-run pint (we heard this might be a thing), the incredible local support, your post-race fish and chips or just ‘that’ view as you reach the final mile, you’ll be able to soak it all in, once again – including the Red Arrows!
If you’re unable to run and have to withdraw from the 2022 Great North Run, you have the option to defer your 2022 Great North Run place to next year. You can find more information here.
We recommend making use of the public transport options available when travelling to the event. Do leave plenty of time to get to the start line as there will be a number of road closures in place for the weekend. You can see full travel information in the event guide here.

Guide Dogs exists to provide life-changing services to the 360,000 people who are registered blind or partially sighted, and the two million people in the UK living with sight loss. 70% of adults receive no support within the first 12 months of diagnosis, and are likely to encounter poor education, high unemployment, depression, loneliness and financial insecurity throughout their lifetime. Our ambition is a future where every person with sight loss has the confidence and support they need to live their lives to the full.
With your help we can do more for people living with cancer, giving each person the support they need to look after all that matters and take care of their health, protect personal relationships and deal with work and money worries. We want to help everyone with cancer find their best way through, from the moment of diagnosis, so they’re able to live life as fully as they can. You can be someone who makes that happen.
