Great North Run
It's Great To Be Back!
We waited almost two years to run together and we hope you had a day to remember. Thanks so much to everyone who came along to celebrate GNR40 with us! From our brilliant NHS heroes who were the official starters of the race, to the first northener winning the race since 1985, the weekend was a real show of regional pride, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
So whether you ran the 40th Great North Run, came along to cheer on the runners, watched live on the BBC, or showed your support online – thank you for being a part of it. If you want to relive some of the best bits, watch the highlights video below.
If you want to do it all again next year, back on our original route, sign up to our reminder service to be notified when Ballot entries open in January 2022.

Share Your Memories
What began as an idea, captured the imagination of a region, and went on to become the biggest half marathon in the world. GNR40 Heritage tells the story of the run and the region. We want you to be part of GNR40 Heritage and we’re asking anyone with a story to tell, to send us their favourite memories of the last forty years.

Guide Dogs exists to provide life-changing services to the 360,000 people who are registered blind or partially sighted, and the two million people in the UK living with sight loss. 70% of adults receive no support within the first 12 months of diagnosis, and are likely to encounter poor education, high unemployment, depression, loneliness and financial insecurity throughout their lifetime. Our ambition is a future where every person with sight loss has the confidence and support they need to live their lives to the full.
With your help we can do more for people living with cancer, giving each person the support they need to look after all that matters and take care of their health, protect personal relationships and deal with work and money worries. We want to help everyone with cancer find their best way through, from the moment of diagnosis, so they’re able to live life as fully as they can. You can be someone who makes that happen.
