We are closely monitoring the developments with COVID-19 and will continue to take the advice of the UK government around the staging of large public events.

At present the Great East Run is scheduled to go ahead as planned, but we will assess over the coming weeks and update participants as a priority if anything changes.

We understand the commitment and dedication you make when you enter one of our events and we would not take any decision to cancel or postpone lightly. We love delivering our events and we work hard to make sure our participants can enjoy them in a safe and happy environment.

In the meantime we want to reassure you all that we are keeping in close contact with Public Health England. If circumstances dictate that we must cancel any of our events everyone who had entered would be entitled to a refund.

Great East Run

Well done to every single person who took part in lasr year’s Great East Run – you’re all amazing! Entries for the 2020 half marathon, which takes place on Sunday 20 September, are now open. We hope to see you on that start line!

The run numbers will start to arrive with participants approx. 2 weeks prior to the event weekend. They are posted to the address that you entered when you registered for the event.

We are unable to send run numbers outside of the UK as we cannot guarantee their safe delivery. We will make them available for collection from our information marquee.

This is your unique number, so only you must wear it on the day.

Your timing chip is attached to the back of your run number, do not remove or cover the chip (with a jacket, bum bag etc.) as this will affect the accuracy of your time.

The chip will automatically record the time, so you don’t need to do anything. Your chip doesn’t need to be returned at the end of the run.

You don’t need to register on the day, once you’ve filled in the back of the run number and attached it to your front (with safety pins) you are good to go, you can go straight to the start assembly area for your start time.

The Great East Run course follows a scenic route that is suitable for runners of all abilities.

Starting and finishing on Russell Road, runners pass the prestigious Willis building designed by Lord Foster before heading through the beautiful Holywells Park and travelling down to Ipswich's vibrant waterfront.

The route then passes Felaw Maltings on the way out and back along Wherstead Road, where participants will see Fox's Marina, Suffolk Food Hall and go twice under the iconic Orwell Bridge into Freston.

On returning to the town centre, runners will head towards Ipswich Town FC's Portman Road stadium, passing the statues of two football legends, Sir Bobby Robson and Sir Alf Ramsey, before crossing the finish line in the stadium's practice pitch and being welcomed by hundreds of supporters in the stands.

On the course you will find CLIF Bar feed stations with CLIF Shot Energy Gels and CLIF Bloks Energy Chews. This station will be around the 8 mile point on the course.

The family reunion area can be found in the event village, where there will be a number of flying flags displaying letters of the alphabet. Arrange to meet your loved ones under the flying flag displaying the first letter of your surname i.e. if your name is John Smith, you should arrange to meet under the 'S' flag.
