Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh Run 5 Miles

BRAND NEW to the Great Run series in 2017 the Great Edinburgh Run will feature a fantastic 5-mile distance in addition to the traditional 10-mile event on Sunday 23 April.

The Great Edinburgh Run 5 mile is perfect for new runners who want a shorter running route but don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to experience the beautiful course in historic Edinburgh city centre.

The Course

The 5 mile route gives participants the perfect sight-seeing tour of Edinburgh; passing some of the Scottish capital's most famous landmarks and providing picturesque views across the city.

Runners will start in Holyrood Park, beneath Arthur's Seat and beside The Palace of Holyrood – the official residence of her Majesty the Queen in Scotland – before heading into Edinburgh’s Old Town. The route passes The Scott Monument, Greyfriar's Bobby and The National Museum of Scotland; as well as giving participants the chance to run on some of the City’s most iconic roads including The Royal Mile and The Mound.

The second half of the course takes in the Grassmarket and Cowgate before runners return into Holyrood Park via The Pleasance and enjoy a final downhill mile to the finish line, a great sense of achievement and that well-deserved medal.
