Great North 5K

Well done to everyone who took part in this year's Simplyhealth Great North 5k! Catch all the action from the weekend live on BBC One (Sunday 09:30 - 13:30) & BBC Two (Sunday 17:00 - 18:00). If you fancy taking part in 2020 make sure you sign up to the reminder service and we'll let you know when entries open.

The Course

This 5km course has the added bonus of giving runners views of the scenic NewcastleGateshead Quayside from both sides of the river. Runners start on the Newcastle side of the river and cross over the Swing Bridge, and then loop to the west before heading back down to pass the Sage on the Gateshead side.

The last kilometre gives runners the chance to run over the Gateshead Millennium Bridge before the final straight back on the Newcastle side.

Please note: the course may be subject to change.

Great Run Local

Great Runners Newcastle

A brand new, FREE weekly social running group, starting and finishing from Brewdog on Dean Street.

We’re not an athletics club - just an informal running group, for all abilities, meeting on Wednesday nights in Newcastle city centre.

Please register here ahead of your run: www.greatrun.org/greatrunners and join our Facebook group here

There’s no membership or fees involved - simply rock up to our good friends at Brewdog, drop your bag and we’ll have a 3k, 5k or 8k route for you to tackle at your own pace.

When you’ve finished your run, don’t forget to stick around at Brewdog, chat with the rest of the group over a post-run drink and see who’s been named as Runner of the Week.

Great Run App

Don't forget to download the FREE Great Run App from the App Store or Google Play. It contains loads of event day info, your loved ones can live track you on your journey around the course and you can link your social media channels to share your progress and those all-important results live to Facebook and Twitter. Not only that, but you can use our selfie frames to make those event day snaps look even better.

It will also give you the lowdown on what our sponsors and partners are doing (and giving away!) on event day and where you can find them.
