Australian lifeguard Trent ‘Maxi' Maxwell, who stars in the country's Bondi Rescue TV show, is set to take on the Aquathlon at the Great Scottish Swim this year.

Better known as Maxi from Australia's Network Ten TV hit show about the lifeguards that patrol Bondi Beach, he will take part in the one-run, one-swim event at the Great Scottish Swim in Loch Lomond on Saturday 25 August.

Maxi, who lives in Sydney, will be supporting drowning prevention charity the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK), which provides water safety and drowning prevention education.

He is an ambassador for the charity and plans to spend two weeks this August travelling through England and into Scotland promoting the charity's Rookie Lifeguard Programme.

Lee Heard, Head of Volunteering for RLSS UK, said: “We are delighted to have Maxi join us for a second tour. “He is visiting a range of different events to talk water safety and the Rookie Lifeguard Programme.

"We are especially pleased that he is able to visit Scotland and engage with everybody attending this year's Great Scottish Swim."

Maxi will also be the Aquathlon's honorary starter, setting off hundreds of people who will enjoy the best of both land and water in an 800m swim and a 5km run around the Loch.

The Great Scottish Swim is returning to Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park for the sixth consecutive year for a packed day of open water swimming, with a huge range of distances on offer for all ages and abilities.

Maxi said: “I am so excited to be visiting Scotland on my next trip to the UK this summer.

“I've heard so much about Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park so I am stoked to not only see it, but swim in it and be a part of an amazing day of swimming with thousands of others at the Great Scottish Swim.”

Maxi will join over 2,000 participants who will take on a range of seven different distances in beautiful surroundings, from the introductory 250 metre course for those aged eight years old and over, all the way through to a gruelling 10k marathon swim.

The Aquathlon rounds off an exciting day of swimming, with participants being able to compete either individually or as part of a team.

The Great Scottish Swim is the final event in the Great Swim, Europe's biggest open water swim series, that sees swimmers compete in three events in lakes and reservoirs across the UK.
