Time is running out to enter the Simplyhealth Great Tees 10k, with entries set to close in under a week’s time.

Taking place on Saturday 8 September, as part of the Simplyhealth Great North Run weekend, the final spaces are available for people wishing to be part of Stockton-on-Tees’ sporting history and take part in the first organised 10k on the riverside.

The course follows a flat, closed road route that starts and finishes on Riverside Road and takes in some iconic landmarks including the Infinity Bridge, Tees Barrage and Newport Bridge.

Whether you’re new to running or looking for a challenge – this could be the event you’ve been waiting for.

The Simplyhealth Junior Great Tees Run carries a distance of 4k and is suitable for nine to 14-year-olds. The Simplyhealth Mini Great Tees Run is the shortest distance at 2k and is aimed at three to eight-year-olds.

The event also give participants the perfect opportunity to watch world-class elite athletes take centre stage at the Great North CityGames Elite Mile, which is coming to Stockton-on-Tees for the first time, after ten years on NewcastleGateshead Quayside.

As well as the 10k event, there’s also shorter events that children and young people can enjoy – giving them the chance to experience their own finish line moment and wear their medals and running t-shirts with pride.

Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “We are incredibly excited that one of the biggest sporting weekends in the country, with the Simplyhealth Great North Run taking place the day after, is extending to include exciting elite-level athletics in Stockton-on-Tees.

“To also be hosting our first ever 10k event, as well as the mini and junior runs, is a real source of pride and goes to show how Stockton-on-Tees has a first class events programme – with something for every member of the family to get involved in.

“All events can be watched for free – it’s the perfect opportunity to come down to Stockton and support your friend or family member or simply soak up the atmosphere!”

Entries for all events are set to close at 10am on Wednesday 5 September.

Please note that entries made between now and the deadline will require entrants to pick up their packs from the Great Run information point at Stockton Central Library on the morning of the event.
