Over two hundred runners from 15 teams have already entered the Arcadis Business Challenge at the Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon, representing a range of businesses from media outlets to accountancy and engineering firms.
The initiative, which is sponsored by UK Superbrand Arcadis, aims to bring together the city's thriving business community and is open to small, medium and large organisations who would like to take on the Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon as a team on Sunday 17 September.
Teams can be any size, and either all male, all female or mixed; winners are picked based on the four fastest collective times by participants.
Trophies are handed out to winning businesses and any company that enters 12 or more employees will receive its own engraved plaque in the name of the fastest runner in the team.
Arcadis City Executive for Bristol, Richard Bonner, said: “Bristol is a thriving place to be and we are proud to be working with local authority groups and businesses to make the city a healthier, happier place to live and do business.
“This year Bristol is one of seven cities to be awarded the annual title of European City of Sport and we're looking forward to playing our part to support and celebrate sport in the city by encouraging businesses around Bristol to get involved with the Arcadis Business Challenge in September.”
Andy Graffin, project manager for the Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon, said: “The Arcadis Business Challenge will give local businesses the opportunity to engage in some friendly rivalry on the iconic city centre course on Sunday 17 September.
“It's also a fantastic way for each individual organisation to encourage a healthy outlook for staff, engage in some team building or even focus on charity fundraising for their chosen good cause.”
Antonia Reynolds of Ghyston, a software developer based in the city centre said, "Ghyston has many keen runners who've taken on the Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon in previous years. However, this is the first year we've entered as a company, and we are already reaping the benefits.
"From our shared lunchtime runs, to our chats about injuries and routes we're finding the joint entry is bringing us even closer together as a team. Equally important is our shared effort to raise money for Emmaus Bristol.
"We'd encourage any company to join the challenge, and to grow as a team."
