Michelle Mone OBE, entrepreneur and founder of lingerie firm Ultimo, was at the Emirates Arena's running track getting in some training as she prepares to join thousands of women on Sunday 17 May for the Morrisons Great Women's 10k.
Michelle was joined by Erica Thompson from Glasgow, a novice runner also taking part in this year's Morrison's Great Women's 10k. Michelle was on hand to offer Erica some fitness advice and encourgaement ahead of her participation in the event which will be her first step in her mission to change her lifestyle and get fitter and healthier.
Michelle and Erica will take part in the biggest all female running event in the UK which will see thousands of women walk, jog or run through Glasgow's southside either for charity or a personal challenge.
Michelle said: “I am really looking forward to taking part in the Morrisons Great Women's 10k, it will be fantastic to run in my home city alongside thousands of inspiring ladies. I have worked very hard over the past few years to get myself fit and healthy; I've lost over seven stone and I've managed to keep the weight off which can be the hardest part. I hope other women are encouraged by my fitness and weightloss journey and sign up to run with me on Sunday 17 May. If I can do it, so can you!”
Erica Thompson, 31 said: “It has been fantastic to meet Michelle today and hear some of her advice on training and motivation. I have just moved back home to Glasgow as part of a big lifestyle change to get fitter, healthier and happier. Over the past few years I have signed up to various sporting events and never ended up taking part. I am really looking forward to the Morrisons Great Women's 10k and Michelle has really encouraged me to go for it – I can't back out now!”
The Morrisons Great Women's 10k is the biggest female only running event in the UK. Runners will follow the same route as previous years; starting on Nithsdale Road and going through Pollok Park before finishing on Mosspark Boulevard. There will be a variety of entertainment along the way as well as fantastic crowd support.
Andy Mitchelmore, from event organiser Nova International, said: “It's fantastic to have Michelle signed up to run with us in the Morrisons Great Women's 10k. Michelle is an inspirational woman both professionally and personally, and I am sure many of our ladies will be inspired by her journey to fitness and will be keen to run alongside her.
“Entry for the run is now open and I look forward to welcoming ladies from all over Scotland on Sunday 17 May.”
