Put The Spring Back In Your Step

Celebrate Spring with running

We’ve come up with five ways to celebrate the advent of Spring, and to make the most of that incredible feeling of we-can-do-anything positivity that arrives with it. Get ready to feel glorious.

Make sure you’ve got a training plan. We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again: training is the key to running success. A proper plan keeps you on the right track and helps you avoid injury. And by sticking it up somewhere you can see it, you’ll have daily motivation to lace up and head out into the (fingers crossed) sunshine. Check out ours here.

Ease into it. When the weather is good and the motivation is strong, it can be tempting to overdo things. Yes, Springtime running feels fantastic, but take it steady – too much too soon and you risk putting yourself out of action. Remember: stick to your plan, increase speed and distance over time and always keep hydrated.

Do a virtual challenge. Signing up for an event is a great way to harness your running optimism. With our virtual challenges, there’s something for everyone from a couch to 5K to distance challenges. At £10-£15 per challenge, an online tracking tool and a finisher medal for every entrant, they’re an affordable and easy way to start – or kickstart – a love of running.

Treat yourself to a new training outfit. There’s nothing quite like that new gear feeling – so stretchy! While you’re thinking about it, may we recommend taking a look at our brand new Great Run official merch? It really is rather lovely…

Make yourself a Spring themed playlist. Coming up with the tracks is half the challenge: Here Comes The Sun by the Beatles? Build Me Up Buttercup by the Foundations? You might anticipate some April showers with Taylor Swift’s Come In With The Rain or get close to nature with Coldplay’s Up With The Birds. Lots of feel-good favourites, and lots of fun.
