Great South Run Solo started on 1 September and ends on Sunday 18 October, the day the 31st Great South Run was scheduled to take place. ALL PROFITS from the challenge will go to the NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Urgent Appeal. Well done to everyone who took part - Great Run Solo runners challenge have helped to raise over £230,000 for the NHS.

Great South Run Solo participants should submit final results by 25th October to receive their medal. Finishers medals will be sent after this date.

How it works

The challenge

Great South Run Solo is for runners aged +17.

Complete 25 runs in the 48 days

You can run at any pace and distance comfortable for you. Everyone who completes a minimum of 25 runs to finish the challenge will receive a special edition medal and digital certificate.
 

(optional) Cumulative distance challenge

For those of you who like a distance challenge, the second part of the challenge is for you. There are three distance levels; depending on how far you have achieved over your 25 (or more) runs we will award you a bronze, silver or gold finisher certificate which you can download and share with pride. Please note the distance award (gold, silver, bronze) is the digital – all medals will be the same and will NOT be bronze, silver or gold.

  • Bronze - 75 Miles
  • Silver - 125 miles
  • Gold - 200 miles

Track your activities, using our wall chart, your own tracking app or our online run tracker, then at the end of the challenge simply return to log your results and confirm you’ve completed the challenge by uploading evidence of your activity over the challenge period. You can also join our official Strava group & track your activities with other runners taking on the challenge.

What you get

On completion of your challenge we will send you an exclusive, special edition Great South Run Solo medal and digital certificate. Entrants who complete a distance challenge will be awarded a Bronze, Silver or Gold certificate to share, print and display with pride, to mark the achievement. Please note all medals will be the same (as pictured) and will NOT be bronze, silver or gold.


Please be patient as medals will arrive approx. 1 month after you have completed the challenge. For international runners, there is an additional £3.50 charge to cover medal postage. Digital certificates will be made available after the challenge is completed and you have uploaded your evidence. 

The NHS donation

Here at Great Run we rely heavily on medical volunteers across the country to help with the delivery of Great Run Series events. We have always appreciated them, but never as much as at this current time. During this COVID-19 outbreak the amazing work that our NHS workers are undertaking is incredible, and that’s why we are taking no income from this challenge. ALL profits will be donated to the NHS – specifically, your donation will go to the NHS Charities together COVID-19 Urgent Appeal. Find out more here.

We’re sad that the Great South Run has been cancelled but we want to help keep people running, and continue to raise funds for our amazing NHS.  Great South Run Solo challenges entrants to complete 25 runs in 48 days and starts on 1 September.  The challenge ends on Sunday October – the day the Great South Run was scheduled to take place.

The challenge costs £10 to join, but you have the option of donating a further £5 (select the £15 entry price option) or a further £10 (select the £20 entry price option). All profits will go to the NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Urgent Appeal. If you want to raise any additional money during your running for a different charity then you can create a JustGiving page.
Yes, Great South Run Solo starts 1 September 2020.
Yes, the deadline for entries is 25 September and the challenge ends on Sunday 18 October.
You can enter online ahead of the start date. We will also accept entries for Great South Run Solo after the challenge start date, up to 25 September.
 
 We suggest you use a tracking app (like Nike NRC, Asics Runkeeper or Strava) to track each run over the challenge period - or our wall chart. When you finish the challenge, you will need to come back to our website to upload a screenshot of your activity to get your medal.  Please see our guide on tracking your runs if you have any queries. You can also use our online run tracker - you will need to enter your Great Run registration ID, which can be found on your entry confirmation email, and date of birth to log in.

To upload your screenshot(s) simply visit the results page. You will need to enter your Great Run registration ID, which can be found on your entry confirmation email, and date of birth. You can then upload the screenshot(s) of your tracking app, enter your cumulative distance and time, and confirm that you have completed the challenge.

Yes, you can use a treadmill to reach your target. Just remember to track the activity.

Yes you can do more than one activity per day, but don’t overdo it!

Yes of course you can. All walking / jogging / running activity counts as long as you track it.

You don’t need to log your results with us after each run. You can visit the results submission page once you have completed the challenge and enter your total time, total distance, upload a (optional) screenshot of your activity and confirm that you have completed the challenge.

If you do wish to log your activity as you progress through the challenge then you can use our online run tracker. You can then log each run and see your total distance and number of runs completed.

The first part of the challenge is to do 25 runs (or more) in the 48 days – everyone who does this will receive a special edition medal.
The second part is to tally up the distance that you’ve completed. At the end of the challenge when you log your runs, you will need to calculate the total distance that you’ve covered.
We will then award you with a finisher memento which you can download and share with pride. If you have covered 75 miles + you will receive Bronze, 125 miles + you will receive Silver and 200 miles + you will receive Gold.

You don’t need to enter this challenge separately – if you have already entered GSR Solo then you already have the chance to achieve the bronze, silver or gold award.
At the end of the challenge when logging your results you will need to calculate the total distance that you’ve covered.
We will then award you with a finisher memento which you can download and share with pride. If you have covered 75 miles + you will receive Bronze, 125 miles + you will receive Silver and 200 miles + you will receive Gold.

You don’t need to change anything, you haven’t committed to a distance. At the end of the challenge when you log your runs, you will need to calculate the total distance that you’ve covered.
We will then award you with a finisher memento which you can download and share with pride. If you have covered 75 miles + you will receive Bronze, 125 miles + you will receive Silver and 200 miles + you will receive Gold. But remember, you don’t need to do anything until the end of the challenge.
