Power of Running
We believe in the Power of Running. For Great Run series ambassador and elite athlete, Eilish McColgan, running has always been a part of her life, and the Great Run events have been a proud part of her journey.
Everyone who signs up for the AJ Bell Great North 10k is a runner, regardless of finish time, and everyone has their reason for running. In our Power of Running campaign, we are bringing to life some of the amazing stories behind the tens of thousands of runners who line up on the start line each year. Tell us about your running story, and you could be featured in our campaign.
Event Timetable: 7 July 2024
Please note: Provisional timetable is subject to change.
Newcastle United Foundation
We’re excited to partner with the Newcastle United Foundation at the Great North 10k again this year. The Foundation is committed to helping people young and old be more active, and feel happier and healthier through sports and well-being programmes across the North East. To celebrate the partnership, there will be a black and white wave on the day, with NUF runners wearing a special black and white striped run number in the clubs’ colours. The wave is open to all runners who want to show their support for The Foundation, simply select that you would like to join when you enter.
Training Advice

Find Runner PhotosThe 2024 route has everything runners loved last year – the famous AJ Bell Great North Run start line, the iconic Tyne Bridge, and a Newcastle city centre stretch that takes in plenty of famous landmarks including Grey’s Monument, Eldon Square and Great North Museum, to name a few! Based on runner feedback from last year’s event, we’ve reduced most of the gravel running section to the finish line on the Town Moor. Expect a smooth out and back on the Great North Road, with plenty of high-energy tunes to help you along, before the final 1k Town Moor stretch to the grandstand finish.
