The clock is ticking. It’s 10 weeks to go until The Simplyhealth Great Women’s Run. And with the clocks going forward this weekend heralding lighter nights, it’s time to focus on your running goals.

Double Olympian Eilish McColgan took some time out of her busy schedule to meet with participants who have already signed up for The Simplyhealth Great Women’s Run, which takes place in Glasgow on Sunday June 4th.

In a first for this year, The Simplyhealth Great Women’s Run have announced six ambassadors – to be known as the Super Six. They are six women who have entered the run, each with a different story and reason for running, but all six share the same passion for running and achieving their goal.

Meeting Eilish McColgan at Glasgow’s George Square gave the ambassadors a boost, as Eilish gave a few training tips to keep the momentum going. The clock is ticking on a 10 week countdown, and now is a great time to focus on your training plan. With Spring now in the air – hopefully there’s a bit more spring in the step, and more opportunities to get the trainers on and get outdoors.

Eilish McColgan said, “If you’ve never done a run before a 10k is a good place to start. You can go from the couch to a 10k in 10 weeks. It’s a good time to start and it’s all about building it up gradually. You don’t need to be running miles in a week, just build it up, and 10 weeks does give you a good time to prepare.”

The Simplyhealth Great Women’s Run is the largest women’s only running event in Scotland. It’s the perfect opportunity to gather a team of friends or run on your own. This year a new 3K route has been added, and it’s a great way to start running, if you don’t want to do a full 10K. There’s also a special wave for mums and buggies. This new 3K route offers mums a fitness goal after having a baby, and it also means their baby can come along too.

The 10K route starts at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park and runs through the heart of the city’s west end, passing iconic landmarks such as The Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow University, The Science Centre and The SSE Hydro. All along the way there will be bands, pipers and dancers and all finishers receive a goody bag, which includes a medal, technical T-shirt and water.

There’s always a great atmosphere at The Simplyhealth Great Women’s Run and with 10 weeks to go – there’s still time to sign up and get training.
