The Great South Run event guide has all of the information and useful details you need for the big day, whether you’re taking part in the 5k on Saturday or 10 mile on Sunday. We highly recommend you take time to read through it to ensure you’re race ready.

The Great South Run is part of an incredible weekend of running that also includes the Great South 5k and Junior Mini Great South Run on Saturday 15 October. Starting and finishing on the glorious seafront, the route offers a run through history passing iconic landmarks including the Historic Dockyard, HMS Victory and Southsea Castle along with breath-taking views of the Isle of Wight. Whether you take on a 5k challenge on Saturday 15th, or 10 mile on Sunday – come and celebrate everything that’s incredible about Portsmouth with us in 2022.
Great South 5k entries close at 10am on Friday 14 October. Great South Run (10 Mile) entries close at 10am on Saturday 15 October.
Great South Run entries are open to runners aged 14+ (5k) and 16+ (10 mile) on the day of the event.

Great South 5k
Saturday 15 October
If you’re not ready to take on a 10 mile distance, then the Great South 5k is the perfect way to experience amazing sea views and race day atmosphere along a shorter, fast and flat route. If you’re just starting out or training for your first 5k, you can download our 5k training plan and be start line ready in 12 weeks. Find out more here.
Great South Run 5k entries are open to runners aged 14+ on the day of the event.
Saturday 5K Timetable
Below is the provisional event day timetable and wave start times.
Please note, this may be subject to change, and we will communicate your start time and assembly time on your run number.
Your Run Number
Run numbers have been posted to entrants. Once you have your run number, you’re all set for race day! Simply attach with safety pins and head for the start line.
If your run number hasn’t arrived, don’t worry, you can visit the information point to collect a replacement. The information point will be located near to the skate park on Clarence Esplandade (opposite the Pyramid centre) and open on Saturday from 08:00am to 04:00pm and from 07:00am on Sunday. Please try and collect on Saturday if you can, as Sunday is likely to be busy. If you can’t collect your number on Saturday, please allow plenty of time to visit the information point on Sunday.
Please note: If you secure your entry after 10:00am on Friday 7 October your number must be collected from the information point. Your start time/wave colour will be allocated there. Those with the faster estimated running times will be allocated to the earlier waves.
Sunday Event Timetable
Below is the provisional event day timetable and wave start times. Please note, this may be subject to change, and we will confirm your specific wave and start time on your run number and in your pre-event emails.
We recommend planning your travel to the start line ahead of event day, and using the various public transport options available on the day. There will be a number of road closures in place for the event, you can see a full list of road closures and parking options here.
If you plan on travelling to the event via train, South Western Railway has a quick and easy journey planner for you to use here. Portsmouth and Southsea station is approx. a 30-minute walk to the start line on Clarence Esplanade and Fratton station is approx. a 35-minute walk.
