A woman will take on a 10-mile challenge in aid of a toddler who is suffering from a double brain tumour.

Two-year-old Lyle Cornet, from Loanhead near Edinburgh, was diagnosed with an inoperable double brain tumour in February last year.

Lyle's condition cannot be cured as the tumour is located on his main optic nerve and only certain chemotherapy treatments can be used due to his age.

Lyle cannot walk and requires 24-hour care from his brave mum Lyndsey, 33, who struggles to do this in their current home which needs adapting and specialist equipment installed.

Lyndsey desperately set up a fundraising page to raise £60,000 to extend the house to include a ground level bathroom and bedroom to help Lyle.

Her pleas were heard by friend Lyndsay Fraser, 30, from Meadowbank in Edinburgh, who had been following Lyle's story on social media.

Lyndsay was touched by the story and decided to pull together a team of five runners to support Lyle's fundraising.

The runners will take on the Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh Run on Sunday 23 April to help Lyndsey reach her £60,000 target.

Fundraiser Lyndsay said: “I first heard about Lyle and Lyndsey through a mutual friend and really empathised with their situation.

“I started following all of their campaigning on social media and eventually got in touch to say that I wanted to help in some way.

“£60,000 is a lot of money and if we can help reach that target it will give a little boy who is suffering a better quality of life and enjoyment.

“I got in touch with Lyndsey and offered to keep her up to date on my progress. It's lovely to think that a friendship can be made through doing something like this.

“I wanted to spread the word and found a group of people who were willing to help me raise some money on a running challenge.

“Hopefully we can help Lyle reach his total quickly and do something that will change his life.”

Mum Lyndsey said she has been ‘overwhelmed' by the kindness of people like Lyndsay.

She added: “We have been completely shocked by everyone's generosity so far and I was overjoyed when Lyndsay said would like to support Lyle.

“Lyle has already spent the majority of his life in hospital and to hear that our son's life is limited when he has so much more to live for was just the worst news imaginable.

“We hope Lyle will be able to receive the chemotherapy for another 15 months and at the moment his condition is stable, although we are told this could erupt at any time.

“For us to continue living at home as a normal family, it is essential that the necessary adaptations are made to the house. We really want Lyle to be able to continue to make special memories at home with his brother Chris.

“No one should have to see their child going through this but unfortunately it does happen and could happen to any one of us so it is really lovely to see people like Lyndsay going an extra mile for you.”

Lyndsay will join over 4,500 people for the Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh Run in April, the only running event that takes participants through the heart of the city centre.

Runners start and finish in Holyrood Park and pass the likes of the Edinburgh Dungeon, the National Museum of Scotland and the iconic Edinburgh Castle.

The route then returns to Holyrood Park, passing the beautiful Arthur's Seat before runners cross the finish line.

The inclusive event also includes a brand new 5-mile distance and the Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh Run Family Mile and Toddler Dash, for children to run with their families.

Lyndsay added: “I run quite often but 10 miles will not be easy for me. It will be a challenge but nothing along the lines of what Lyle and his mum go through every day.”
