Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run

Don't miss out! There are limited places left in all 3 events... Secure your place on the start line today!

Take a tour of Aberdeen this summer with the Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run.

This brand new running event includes a half-marathon, 10k and family run taking place on Sunday 27th August, the day after the Celebrate Aberdeen parade.

Starting and finishing on Union Street in the heart of the city centre, you’ll join thousands of runners on a route that skirts through the most scenic parts of the Granite City.

Run, jog or walk over Brig o’Balgownie, through Old Aberdeen and take in the beautiful views of Aberdeen Bay.

There are less than 200 places left in the 10k distance, less than 500 places in the half marathon and less than 50 places in the Family Run, so don’t miss out!

10K Course Map

Starting and finishing on Union Street the 10k will take runners east, past Aberdeen Town House and towards the famous Castle Gate before turning right down Marischal Street towards Aberdeen Harbour. At the 3k point near the Beach Ballroom, runners will then head west and will join the half marathon route later as the course loops round Pittodrie Football Stadium.

Now into the second-half of the course, runners will follow Park Road and cross West North Street before eventually making their way past some of Aberdeen’s most iconic buildings and finishing back on Union Street, where they will be handed their goodie-filled finisher’s pack and medal.

Please note: the course may be subject to change.

Half Marathon Course Map

Also starting and finishing on Union Street the half marathon course follows the same 10k route for the first few miles before branching north at the Beach Ballroom along the Esplanade towards the River Don.

Having crossed the Bridge of Don, runners will enjoy the support from other participants afforded by a short out-and-back section on Ellon Road, before the picturesque Brig o Balgownie takes them across the Don for a second time as they pass half-way and head towards the historic cobbles of Old Aberdeen.

After a loop of Pittodrie Stadium runners will then pass by the beautifully reinstated Marischal College, and the new Marischal Square development will be a welcome sight at the top of Littlejohn Street before the Kirk of St Nicholas, His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Robert Gordons College and Union Terrace Gardens are passed on Rosemount Viaduct.

There's sure to be fantastic support as both routes head west along Carden Place. A turn back onto Albyn Place and one final push will bring Union Street and the finish line into view meaning that the cheering crowds, friends, family and that well-deserved medal are not far away!

Please note: the course may be subject to change.

Event Location

Famed for its sparkling architecture, Aberdeen is lined with classic granite buildings as well as an abundance of museums, galleries, parks, and gardens. The city is cosmopolitan with plenty of exciting festivals and events happening all year-round creating a distinct cultural offering.

With its own beach nestled only a stones through from the city centre, ships dock in the working harbour and regularly spotted are the dolphins that leap at the harbour mouth.

Becoming increasingly well known for its delectable food and drink offering, Aberdeen is a fantastic place to try local produce. From stylish to traditional bars, fine dining restaurants and bistros, there’s no shortage of places to sample local craft beers, fresh seafood, Aberdeen Angus Beef and of course, their famous whisky.

Event Location

Organised by a team of volunteers, Celebrate Aberdeen is a unique celebration which has been held in the city every summer since 2011.

Taking place on Saturday 26 August, the event will include the popular parade, as well as a host of music performances to showcase local talent. The parade involves different charities, social enterprises and volunteering organisations uniting in a procession through the heart of the city.

Musical and theatrical performances will be held within Aberdeen City Centre throughout the fun-filled weekend, which is supported by Aberdeen City Council, and aims to provide a platform to celebrate the great talent in the city. Click here to find out more about Celebrate Aberdeen
