Great North Run Withdrawal & Refund Policy

Should a customer wish to withdraw from the event having already entered and paid there are several options.

1. Ballot conditions
By submitting a ballot application and payment details the customer is agreeing to enter the Great North Run and to abide by the Conditions of Entry (Entrants are permitted to withdraw their ballot entry at any point during the open ballot period). If Entrants are successful in the Great North Run Ballot draw, entry fee will be taken automatically using the details given at the point of ballot entry. This then secures a place within the event and the entry fee is non-refundable.

If Entrants are successful in the ballot, they are automatically allocated a place in the event and the customer is accepted as an entrant into the Great North Run and is bound to adhere to the Event terms and conditions.

2. Entry Withdrawal
Medical grounds
We offer a refund in the case of a medical issue preventing the customer from taking part in the event. This is only applicable up to 10 weeks prior to the event day and on production of a medical certificate. All refunds incur an admin charge of £5. (refund is issued minus £5 admin charge)

Non-medical grounds
If the entrant subsequently decides not to run and doesn’t apply for a medical refund, they are entitled to withdraw their place and receive an opportunity to buy a guaranteed place into the following year’s event without having to apply through the ballot system. A refund will not be given and the guaranteed place for the subsequent year will be subject to the standard entry fee.

Once the entrant has committed to withdraw their entry they cannot be reinstated into the event. All requests to withdraw entry must be made at least 48 hrs prior to the event. No withdrawals will be made retrospectively.

Customers who wish to withdraw their entry must do so by completing the online form. We will guarantee you an entry for the 2022 event providing that you follow these simple instructions before the deadline of 6pm on Saturday 11th September 2021. Having done this, you must then return your run number/timing chip to the following address; 2021 Great North Run, PO BOX 1355, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE99 4BZ.

Customers who wish to withdraw their entry prior to 5th July before race packs are allocated can email info@greatrun.org

If we subsequently find that a withdrawn race number has been used, the entrant then forfeits their guaranteed entry in the subsequent years’ event.
