Young fundraiser Ella Chadwick has been recognised for her bravery by winning a Daily Mirror Pride of Sport Award.

10-year-old Ella, from Whitworth in Rochdale, is a regular at the Simplyhealth Junior and Mini Great Manchester Run, determined to fundraise for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Ella has spent a lot of time during her short life at the hospital, surviving 40 gruelling operations before having her life transformed by a kidney transplant from her grandmother.

On Wednesday (22 NOV) Ella was announced as the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Sport Child of Courage.

She will receive the Pride of Sport Award at a glitzy ceremony at Grosvenor House in London, which recognises and celebrates the unsung heroes of grassroots sport.

The awards honour people like Ella who have gone the extra mile to help others achieve their goals and those who have triumphed against adversity.

Ella is determined to do all she can to thank the doctors and nurses who looked after her and has taken on the Simplyhealth Junior and Mini Great Manchester Run multiple times to raise money for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.

She also spent her Summer holidays making ‘get well soon’ card for hundreds of poorly children who have been staying at the hospital.

Ella was born with a rare kidney disease before going through the transplant operation in 2014 and she is now putting all of her efforts into supporting the charity and raising funds to help other sick children.

Even after her transplant, Ella still suffers from mobility problems and had to learn how to support herself on her feet, but never lets that stop her from fundraising.

Ella’s next challenge is to complete a year of fundraising during her 10th year as a patient, by completing 10k worth of running events around the country.

As part of this challenge, she will take on the Simplyhealth Junior and Mini Great Manchester Run on Sunday 20 May in Manchester city centre.

The event features over 1,000 children who take on a 2.5k or 1.5k course, taking part for fun and raising money for charity.
