Less Than 500 Places In Simplyhealth Great East Run

The Simplyhealth Great East Run is close to reaching capacity as there are less than 500 places remaining, with six months to go until the event takes place.
Entries to the half marathon event, which takes place on Sunday 16 September in Ipswich, have once again been in huge demand.
Organisers announced in January that they were increasing the event’s entry limit to 3,500 following the hugely successful inaugural year in 2017.
Entries for this year’s event have only been open for three months and 90 per cent of places have now been filled.
The Simplyhealth Great East Run replaced the successful Ipswich Half Marathon in 2017 and is staged in partnership with Suffolk County Council, Ipswich Borough Council and Ipswich JAFFA Running Club.
Philippa Morrow, from The Great Run Company, said: “Thousands of runners and spectators soaked up the electric atmosphere that made the event so memorable last year and we’re delighted to have received an even bigger demand for entries in 2018.
“If you want to experience a running event in Suffolk like no other, we’d encourage you to sign up now to avoid disappointment as places are extremely limited.”
Thousands of participants have the chance to be their greatest by taking on the 13.1 mile challenge this Autumn, which offers scenic tour of the Suffolk countryside before returning back into Ipswich town centre.
Runners start on Russell Road, before heading towards the waterfront and out towards Freston, passing under the Orwell Bridge, where spectator support was extremely popular last year.
No matter how participants, run, why they run or how fast they go, everyone of them will experience their own unique finish line feeling as they cross the line at Ipswich Town FC’s Portman Road complex.
Last year, runners raised approximately £1 million for good causes both across the region and UK-wide.
The event also contributed to boosting the local economy by more than £4.5 million in 2017 as part of Suffolk County Council’s Most Active County Programme.
Councillor Tony Goldson, Cabinet Member for Health at Suffolk County Council said: “After the resounding success of the 2017 Simplyhealth Great East Run, it is no great surprise that demand for places in this year’s event is so high and already looks like selling out.
“High profile sporting events are a key feature of Suffolk’s most active county programme and with data recently released by Sport England showing positive reductions in the number of inactive residents in the county over the past 12 months they are clearly having the desired effect.”
