My Favourite Gig’ – Boon Army Back For 2017

MANCHESTER music legend Clint Boon has named his DJ set at the Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run as his favourite gig of the year.
The Inspiral Carpets musician, DJ and radio presenter fronts the Boon Army stage at the 5k stage of Europe’s biggest 10k running event, and will be back on the decks on Sunday, 28 May, playing the music that has made Manchester one of the music capitals of the world.
Thousands of runners pass the Boon Army stage every year, and that number is set to be greater this year with the addition of a half marathon to the existing 10k.
Half marathon runners will have completed ten of their 13.1 miles by the time they reach Clint’s stage, where they will be serenaded by some of Manchester’s greatest hits including The Stone Roses, James, Oasis and, of course, the Inspiral Carpets.
And Clint, who has just started a new show at Radio XS, in Manchester, said: “It’s the most amazing DJ gig that I do in the year.
“It’s a stand out moment because you get all these amazing people doing it for good causes. It’s also about playing lots of Manchester music.
“I do that because it’s a good way to celebrate the city’s musical heritage.”
In a city that lives and breathes its music scene – what are the hits that Clint comes back to time and time again at the Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run?
He confessed: “I play the same records over and over again – I shouldn’t tell you that. But everyone wants to hear I Am The Resurrection or Come Home so I’ll play certain records several times during the event.
“I’m on the mic a lot shouting Boon Army, giving a shout out to runners. It’s a really inspirational thing to do as a DJ.”
Clint and his family have been supporters of Saint Mary’s Hospital since 2012 when his daughter, Luna Bliss, was born prematurely. Luna Bliss, who was born at 27 weeks, was cared for on the Newborn Intensive Care Unit but sadly passed away.
Since then the Boon family, along with friends and supporters, have raised more than £39,500 for the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. In 2015 Clint’s wife Charlie, along with a team of runners, took on the 10k to raise funds in support of the hospital.
And Clint said: “There are a lot of people who run for that charity, it’s beautiful that people do that.
“In a nutshell it’s my favourite DJ gig of the year and I hope I can carry on doing it forever.”
