The UK’s biggest children’s running event just got bigger!
With over 9200 entries, the 2022 Junior and Mini Great North Run will see the highest number of young runners the event has ever seen. And that’s not all as we will have plenty of exciting activities going on around the Quayside on the day too. Here’s a summary of what you can expect on Saturday 8 October.
Food and Drink galore in our Event Village
Refuel and enjoy what we’ve got on offer at our local food stands. There will be a delicious variety of food to try, including Acropolis Street Food, Redheads Mac and Cheese, Meat:Stack and of course, an ice cream van. Urban Garden will also be offering special kids meals with discounts if you show your finisher medal and Pitcher and Piano have plenty of food and drink options. There’s truly something for everyone…
Come and try it Sports
There will also be a range of fun activities on offer for the kids to try because the excitement doesn’t stop when they cross the finish line! Join in the exciting range of activities hosted by NE1 Summer in the City or test out your rugby skills with Newcastle Falcons who are putting on some fun rugby activities for you to try. You can also get involved at the kid activity sessions at Urban Garden and enjoy a live story time at 1pm from Seven Stories.
Tyney the Tortoise
New for 2022, Tyney the Tortoise will be making their exclusive entrance at this year’s Junior and Mini Great North Run! Our brand new Great Run mascot will be there to cheer you on, give out plenty of high fives and meet lots of you. Don’t forget to grab Tyney for a selfie on the day and make sure you come down to see them arrive between 10:15 and 10:30 at the start line.
Your exclusive finisher’s medal
The greatest sense of achievement is completing the run and being part of the UK’s biggest and best kid’s running event, however a shiny new medal doesn’t hurt! Especially when it’s a Great Run medal. Don’t forget to collect your goodie bag at the end of your run, packed full of goodies and your snazzy finisher’s medal to show all your friends! Bragging rights are granted.
With some of the best (and loundest!) crowds of supporters providing encouragement, high-fives and non-stop cheers from start to finish, our Junior and Mini runners are guaranteed to get that big event day experience.
It’s shaping up to be an action-packed day on the Quayside, and we can’t wait to see the thousands of happy faces taking their place on the start line. It’s going to be a GREAT day.
