Your Challenge

Submit your results or log and track each run as you go

Enter the last seven digits of your Great Run Solo Registration ID and date of birth to log in.

Your Great Run registration ID is the unique reference number found in your entry confirmation email. e.g. if your reference is SON20S2878R3637354, enter 3637354. Help.

Run Up To
Race Day

The challenge is to complete 25 runs (or more) in the 8 weeks building up to your Great South Run.  The final run can be the event day itself (if you’re taking part) if you want to finish in style & with a round of applause!

It costs £15 to join, however if you have an entry into the 2021 Great South Run the challenge price is discounted to £12.50.  Your entry fee includes a unique finishers medal, access to training plans & tips, and support throughout the challenge.

Great South Run Solo is open to everyone – you do not need to be taking part in the Great South Run to join in.  You can join any time from now until entries close on 20 September.

The Challenge

Complete 25 runs in 8 weeks

Simply complete 25 runs (or more) at any pace or distance comfortable to you from 23 August to 17 October – the day of the Great South Run.

You have the option to use our online tracker to log your runs as you go – you can start logging runs from the challenge start date – or use your own tracking app or device to record your activity.

Once you have completed 25 runs (or more), come back and submit your results and confirm that you have completed the challenge to receive your medal.

To enter, simply sign up and get ready to run up to race day!

If you are yet to enter the 2021 Great South Run, you can choose to take part in the Great South Run Solo challenge on entry.

Run The Distance

To provide added motivation we are rewarding participants for the total distance you run across the challenge. If you achieve a distance award you will receive a personalised digital finishers certificate to download and share.

There are three distance awards up for grabs:

  • 60 miles – Cushty
  • 100 miles – Tickety-boo
  • 150 miles – Proper chuffed

Challenge Extras

To keep you moving and motivated we’re creating a bonus challenge for you to complete each week.  Something extra (and a little bit different) to add into one of your runs.  Share your attempts & progress with us on social using #GreatRunSolo.

Week 1

We’re going streaking!
Run at least 3 days in a row this week to complete the challenge (no minimum distance). You never know, this might be the start of a very long run streak…

Week 2

Early birds and Night owls
Whether you’re an early bird or a night owl, this challenge is for you. Enjoy epic sunrise or sunset views on a run this week. We’d love to see your pics.

Week 3

What goes down must go up!
What goes down must go up! Include a hill into your run this week… the bigger the better! Don’t forget to snap a selfie at the top to prove you were there!

Week 4

Run buddies for life!
To mark World Friendship Day this Friday (30 July) we’re challenging you to run with a pal / group of pals this week.  Post run squad selfie is a must.

Week 5

Explore a new route
Ditch the ordinary and explore a completely new route this week… it’s good to shake things up a little from time to time! Don’t forget to share your route highlights with us.

Week 6

Shoot for a PB
It’s time to put that training to the test… Choose your PB (400m, 1k, 2k, 5k, 10k, strava segment), lace up your trainers and start that stopwatch. You’ve got this!

Week 7

Local Landmarks
Get out your touristy map and plot a route past at least 3 iconic(ish) landmarks in your local area. Don’t forget to snap a selfie at each spot!

Week 8

Gear up for race day
Race day is approaching and your challenge finish line is just over the horizon. Get into the race day spirit with a run in your favourite finisher’s t-shirt. Selfie poses at the ready!

Tracking Your

We recommend using a tracking app to log your running activity during your challenge – any tracking app or watch can be used. You also have the option of using our online tracker to log each run as you go, this is available here on the challenge page from the start of the challenge. You can log in and start tracking runs as soon as your challenge starts.

The Reward

What You

The Great South Run Solo medal is glorious on its own (pictured), but it’s been cleverly designed to combine with the Great South Run medal to form a supercharged medal.  

Your challenge fee also includes access to our online run tracker to monitor your progress through training – accessible from the start of your challenge –  and support throughout the challenge.  

Note: For international runners, there is an additional £3.50 charge to cover medal postage. 

Challenge Extras

Over the course of the 8 weeks we will set additional tasks to keep you moving and motivated.  From snapping a selfie at the top of your city’s biggest hill to running backwards for 1 minute, we’ll set you a series of challenge extras over the course of the 8 weeks to keep you on your toes!
