Pacers powered by music, more music zones, a funky finisher t-shirt and a new riverside route. Here’s the lowdown on everything you’ll experience at this year’s Great North 10k.
There’s less than one week to go until the Great North 10k, and we couldn’t be more excited! Lots of the things that runners know and love will remain the same, but we’re introducing new elements which we think are going to be popular new additions. Here’s a summary of what you can expect on Sunday 3 July.
1) A RIVERSIDE ROUTE
A brand new start along South Shore Road & finish in the iconic Baltic Square awaits runners! The entire 10k route hugs the Tyne, promising a tour of the Newcastle & Gateshead Quayside and stunning views of the famous landmarks. Get ready for your big finish line moment, and remember to smile for the official photographers from MarathonPhotos, who will be there to capture you in action.
You can find out more details about the route here.
2) MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT GALORE
Prepare to be entertained from start to finish! Our official warm up team R:U ready will be there with plenty of fun, energy and motivation before the start to get you race ready. Then as you head out on your run, be sure not to miss the on course entertainment which will be positioned throughout the route to provide the soundtrack to your run and keep those legs pumping every step of the way. Look(or listen!) out for our energetic band on the run and awesome Toon Tune zones between kilometres 3-4 and 7-8 – they’ll have you bopping, clapping & singing as you run past!
3) PBs & PACERS POWERED BY MUSIC
With crowds cheering, fellow runners spurring each other on, and training in the bank, race day always offers a great opportunity to achieve a PB.
If you’re looking to make it to the finish line in a particular time, our team of pacers will be on hand to help you achieve your goal. There are 10 pacers (pacing from 40 mins to 1hr 20 mins), helping you pace your run and achieve the time you’re looking for. That’s not all… our pacers will be powered by music, blasting out tunes all along the course to keep motivation sky high! Pretty cool huh?!
4) THE FINISH LINE FEELING & A WORTHY REWARD
Crossing the finish line in Baltic Square to cheering crowds, you’ll be feeling elation, exhaustion and joy as you complete your challenge. The greatest reward is the sense of achievement, but a shiny new medal, a snazzy finishers t-shirt and a finisher’s bag filled with goodies will await you at the end of the run. Why not throw in an ice-cold pint – you’ve earned it!
5) THE KIDS HAVE THEIR MOMENT TO SHINE TOO
Inspire a lifetime passion for running at the Great North Family Run! Running is fun, but it’s even better when you have your friends and family running alongside you. That’s why the Great North Family Run is taking place straight after the Great North 10k with the start and finish situated in front of the renowned Baltic. Runners of all ages (3+) can get involved in the action and get a taste of that big event day experience. Expect plenty of high fives, cheers of encouragement and a very special finisher’s medal!
